About Thel Consulting

Thel Consulting is a South Dakota-based strategic consulting firm specializing in integrated marketing, ecosystem development, product commercialization, and startup acceleration for research institutions and life science organizations. Founded in 2020 by Tung Nguyen and Jessica Schneider, the firm operates as a lean, agile practice.

Tung Nguyen is a mechanical engineer and strategist with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from South Dakota Mines and an MBA from the University of South Dakota. After his career in Colorado’s oil and gas sector, he returned to South Dakota and incorporated Thel Consulting with Jessica Schneider, a civil engineer in South Dakota. Tung serves as the primary consultant and marketing lead for the USD Discovery District—directing annual bioscience market studies, and national outreach and recruitment—and as the business consultant for South Dakota Biotech’s FAST Launch program. Tung has guided more than 47 startups through non-dilutive funding, regulatory navigation, intellectual property protection, and commercialization, with particular expertise in medical devices and other highly regulated products. He also hosts the Favorable Environments podcast, which highlights South Dakota’s collaborative innovation ecosystem.

Thel Consulting is further supported by a select roster of independent subcontractors who provide specialized expertise in cybersecurity, public relations, videographers, photographers, and communications when client projects require it.
